Medvedev demands improved phone quality

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev raised hopes for better mobile telecommunication services for Muscovites on Wednesday by spurring officials to improve the current “disgraceful” quality.

The Telecommunications Ministry, the Moscow government and all mobile networks operators are to look into the issue, the iPhone-toting ex-president said in a disgruntled speech at a meeting regarding open information.

The problem has been sitting still since he moved from this hometown of St. Petersburg back in the 1990s, which does not match the overall plans of introducing the four-generation wireless networks as soon as possible, he added.

“Fourteen years have passed and Moscow still has the worst connection,” RIA Novosti cited Medvedev as saying.

Most Muscovites seem to agree with the prime minister. In summer 2012, Moscow’s Information Technologies Department discovered that 61 percent of residents of Russia’s biggest city were dissatisfied with the mobile networks’ quality.
