Where to party and watch fireworks on New Year’s Eve in Moscow

New Year’s fireworks to be launched from Rossiya Hotel site

The empty site of the former Rossiya Hotel will be used to launch fireworks for New Years, Moscow authorities announced on Friday.

The fireworks called “All the Colors of the New Year” will start at midnight just as 2013 starts, RIA Novosti reported.

Muscovites will be able to celebrate the New Year at outdoor parties on Manezh Square, Lubyanskaya Ploshchad, Ploshchad Revolutsii and Vassilyevsky Spusk.

Stages will be set up and pop singers and dancers will entertain the guests at the venues. All of them will start at 10:00 p.m.

There will be a Christmas Festival on pedestrian streets in the city center, including Stoleshnikov, Kamergersky and Lavrushinski streets, a stone’s throw from Red Square.

Krasny Oktyabr will host a Snowman Festival.

Parties for the masses

Overall 368 mass events are planned for central Moscow over the winter holidays.

On December 24, Russia’s chief Ded Moroz will arrive in Moscow. The welcome party will be held in Gorky Park at noon. Two hours later, the harbinger of holidays will travel the Moscow streets towards the Strasbourg Christmas Fair.

Olympiysky’s swimming pool on Prospekt Mira will hold aquatic performances for children from December 26 through January 8.

From December 28, Muzeon Arts Park will host workshops on snow sculptures.

After the New Year, on January 2-6, Krasnaya Presnya, Hermitage, Tagansky, Bauman and Muzeon parks will host performances from a French theater, and on January 7 the French artists will perform on Ploshchad Revolutsii.
