A court in southern Russia has sanctioned the arrest of three goths suspected of destroying about 40 tombs in the city of Rostov-on-Don in mid-April,

The goths attended “Night Walks in the Cemetery” on the night of April 18 at the Severnoye Cemetery of Rostov-na-Donu, one of the largest in Europe, the regional prosecutor’s office press service told RIA Novosti on Wednesday.

Their walk resulted in about 40 gravestones being damaged, including ones from the Great Patriotic War.

Criminal proceedings have been launched into desecrating the dead and their burial sites, which means up to three months inside.

Goth emerged from the aftermath of punk in early-80s England, merging an interest in amphetamines with a pre-occupation with occult mysticism. Other influences include horror movies and dark-tinged literature from the likes of HP Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe.
