A spat has broken out between the recently appointed US ambassador to Russia, Michael McFaul, and RT television on Wednesday. McFaul accused RT of lying over opposition blogger Alexei Navalny’s US education via his tweet feed.

“[Head editor of RT] Magarita Simonyan when we met at White House you asked me [to] tell you when RT ran something untrue. On RT today, Michael McFaul sent Navalny to Yale. Lie”

Simonyan said in reply that the state-run station had not made such a claim.

“We have combed the entire air and we found nothing of the like,” Simonyan told Interfax on Wednesday.
