Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov wants to ban energy drinks in the republic and ordered that the necessary bill be developed, the Chechen government website announced.

“Consuming any intoxicating products in a Muslim society is unacceptable. We need healthy and strong youth,” Kadyrov explained.

Kadyrov said he will present the initiative on a federal level.

The Chechen leader said energy drinks were bad for one’s health and cause atrophy, depression and aggression.

He said young people need to be told about the danger and for this “it is necessary to produce and show on local TV channels shows about the damage these drinks cause, hold explanatory talks with students, pupils and their teachers.”

He said everyone should deal with it, including all the ministries and departments, as well as parliament, municipalities, mass media and clergy.

Earlier Russia’s chief sanitary doctor Gennady Onishchenko voiced a similar suggestion, arguing that because of drinking energy drinks “at clubs or when studying for exams, young people are turned into alcoholics or drug addicts.”

State Duma is now considering a project that would limit the sales of energy drinks.
