Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev donated his monthly income to help victims of floods in Russia’s Far East, the Russian Ministry for the Development of the Far East said on its website.

Medvedev’s monthly salary is 200,000 rubles (about $6,060).

Russia’s Far East territories have been hit since late July with the worst flooding in 120 years.

The floods have affected about 98,800 people, and 16,000 have already been evacuated. A further 36,000 people need to be evacuated as floodwaters continue to rise, Deputy Prime Minister and Far East envoy Yury Trutnev was quoted by RIA Novosti as saying on Tuesday.

Russia’s federal government has pledged to provide 12 billion rubles ($360 million) in aid to parts of the Far East that have been devastated by flash floods, Trutnev said Wednesday. About 45,000 people are taking part in rescue work.

Aside from Medvedev, other members of the government and the Presidential Administration voluntarily donated money towards efforts to help victims, the Ministry said.

Medvedev, who stepped down as president in 2012, made 5.8 million rubles last year, according to his declaration.

So far, a total of 18 million rubles has been donated by 296 people, according to figures posted by the ministry.
