Top-10 Russian sportspeople named

Paralympic Games Champion in track-and-field athletics Alexei Ashapatov.


The Russian Federation of Sports Journalists has announced it Silver Doe awards naming the nation’s best sportspeople for 2011. The following athletes were this year’s winners.

- Alexei Ashapatov is a Paralympian who competes in throwing events. He won two gold medals in the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing.

- Anastasia Zuyeva is an Olympic swimmer who set an Olympic 100 m backstroke record at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing.

- Natalia Ishchenko is a synchronized swimmer who won a gold medal in the team event at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing.

- Yevgeniya Kanayeva is an Olympic champion and one of the best rhythmic gymnasts in history.

- Viktoria Komova is an artistic gymnast and the 2010 All-Around Youth Olympic Games Champion and the 2011 World Uneven Bars Champion.

- Maxim Mikhailov is a volleyball player and Bronze medalist of the Club World Championship in Qatar as well as voted the best forward European Championship.

- Maria Savinova is a runner specializing in the 800 m. She won the gold medal at the 2010 European Championships in Barcelona.

- Ivan Skobrev is a speed skater and winner of the bronze medal in the 5,000 m and the silver medal in the 10,000 m at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. He is currently the reigning European and World All Round Champion.

- Yekaterina Tudegesheva is a professional snowboardist and World Cup winner.

- Anna Chicherova is a high jumper and gold medalist at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics.
